In India, polls place Narendra Modi well ahead of the elections

“Twelve exit polls point to a landslide victory for the NDA coalition led by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” reports the Indian television channel NDTV. Indeed, most polls give the Hindu nationalist leader a majority at least as overwhelming as the one he obtained in 2019, with 353 deputies out of the 545 making up the lower house of Parliament. Narendra Modi, 73, is thus the winner of a third consecutive term at the head of this country of more than 1.4 billion inhabitants. However NDTV shows a certain prudence, warning its readers, in order to preserve “their health”, that exit polls “are not always accurate”.
